Computing Center for the Arts and Design
Position: Center
Director
Rank: Associate
or Full Professor
Description:
The Ohio State University College of Arts
and Sciences seeks a Director who will provide ambitious, innovative leadership
for its Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD), the primary
resource on campus for the creative use and integration of computer graphics
technologies and arts-based practices. ACCAD is internationally recognized as
one of the first and leading centers of its kind in the world, distinguished by
a transdisciplinary approach to creative research and multidisciplinary learning
experiences.
The successful candidate for Director will be a communicative and inspiring leader who is committed to continuing to build an inclusive, innovative, and transdisciplinary arts-centric vision for the future of the Center; who is skilled in managing change with people representing diverse areas of study; and who is perceptive in developing the creative potential of faculty, staff, and students. The Director will have a faculty appointment in the College of Arts & Sciences—specifically within one of the relevant arts units—and will be charged with collaborating with arts and other university leaders to grow ACCAD’s integration into Ohio State’s emerging, vibrant Arts and Innovation Districts and the University as a whole.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Director provides strategic direction
and leadership for the programmatic and administrative activities of the
center, and is responsible for leading, fostering, and maintaining a robust
creative research agenda and academic offerings that address the emerging
knowledge, trends, and possibilities that will prepare our students for their
own creative futures. The Director serves as the administrative head of the
center, with oversight of affiliated faculty, staff, graduate students, course
offerings, and budget. The Director leads strategic direction through
collective visioning with faculty, staff, and students. Candidates should enjoy
and be skilled at fostering interdisciplinary initiatives and be involved with
research that aligns with the priorities of the center.
Position
Requires:
The ideal candidate will have a terminal
degree in a computer-graphics related field; prior leadership experience at a
university or in industry and an
outstanding record in the area of creative research; teaching experience at the
post-secondary level; evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and
inclusion and a demonstrated ability to cultivate positive work relationships
with diverse students, colleagues, and staff; experience in leading change and the ability to work
successfully across disciplines within a diverse and complex organization;
experience as an
administrator and in engaging collective thinking; a record of developing a diverse and
inclusive community of creative researchers (faculty, staff and students); and demonstrated
achievement and distinction in an area of specialty sufficient to warrant
appointment at the rank of Associate
or Full Professor with tenure.
The starting date for this position is flexible, with a preference for either January 1, 2023 or July 1, 2023
Qualifications:
The successful candidate
should have a proven track record of experience and expressed interest in 3D
graphics and emerging graphics technologies and the ability to engage in
collective thinking about possibilities and creative project feasibility. Evidence
of success in fundraising is also highly desirable. This appointment
is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other
information required by law and/or university policies, including but not
limited to a criminal background check.
