Description:

In partnership with The Ohio State’s The STEAM Factory, the Department of Comparative Studies seeks to hire someone in a tenure-track assistant professor position Indigenous knowledges. We seek candidates whose research addresses the intersections between race, Indigeneity, and education with a focus on Indigenous knowledges and interdisciplinary learning. In addition to meeting instructional needs in American Indian Studies the person hired will, when appropriate, engage in the Global Arts and Humanities Discovery Themes initiatives in Indigenous Studies and Mobility, Immobility, and Migration, the Center for Ethnic Studies, and initiatives across the university intersecting with Indigenous studies from interdisciplinary perspectives. The successful candidate will collaborate with The STEAM Factory in its community engagement, participatory research design and innovation, and interdisciplinary research initiatives.

The Department of Comparative Studies looks forward to building cross-disciplinary and cross-campus collaborations as well as supporting the formation of equitable community and Tribal partnerships. This hire in the Department of Comparative Studies is part of a five-faculty cluster hiring collaboration with the Departments of English, Linguistics, Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures, and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Each of these departments will hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Indigenous Studies. Moreover, the Department of Comparative Studies is conducting two additional tenure track searches. One in “Race, Science, and Technology” as well as a Provost’s tenure-track Fellow to Faculty position in “Race and Health Equity.”

Qualifications:

This appointment will begin August 15, 2023, and the successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in hand by the start of employment. The Ph.D. may be in any relevant field of study and ABDs are welcome to apply. We seek candidates whose research and teaching engage Indigenous Studies, Race, and STEAM Education, whether in the United States or in other parts of the world. Promise of or commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship and inclusive pedagogy are required. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.
