Position Description

We seek a highly-motivated individual to pursue research in a supportive and collaborative environment. Our goal is to advance bioelectronic medicines: electrical stimulation, block, and recording of peripheral autonomic nerves for disease treatment and restoration of function. 

The successful applicant will join our multi-institutional team conducting a large NIH-sponsored study on the anatomy of the human vagus nerve. They will summarize and distill existing literature and data on vagal anatomy, from gross anatomy to ultrastructure. They will lead efforts in data curation, ontological data labeling, data sharing, data visualization, and project management. They may also have the opportunity to contribute to computational modeling of the data. The objectives are accessible data on vagal anatomy serving to seed computational models that lead to mechanistic understanding and design of neuromodulation therapies to improve patient outcomes.

The applicant will also gain exposure to other projects in the lab, spanning computer-based modeling of neurons and electric fields, in vivo stimulation and recording in preclinical models, and translational clinical feasibility and physiology experiments in humans. ·       Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in neuroscience, anatomy, or a related field

·       Be highly organized and detail oriented

·       Have excellent informal and formal written and oral communication skills 

·       Have research experience; demonstrated experience identifying, reading, and synthesizing scientific papers would be an asset

·       Have some programming experience, e.g., Python or Matlab, to handle data digitization and compilation

·       Be capable of balancing independent research progress with collaboration and team work, as appropriate

·       Bring curiosity, enthusiasm, and initiative!
