Position Description:    

The Reker Lab at Duke University's Biomedical Engineering Department is seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Associate to join our fully integrated laboratory. With equal commitment, expertise, and infrastructure in computation, wet-lab biology, and chemistry, our lab aims to advance the development of novel therapeutics against diseases such as cancer, infectious diseases, and inflammatory diseases. The Postdoctoral Associate will work on projects to integrate generative chemistry models and property prediction approaches within active learning workflows and into prospective drug discovery and design studies. This position is available for immediate hire with a 1-year term and an opportunity for additional annual renewal contingent on performance and funding availability. 

Responsibilities: 
  • Conceive, implement, and test novel computational methods for molecular design using state-of-the-art libraries such as scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, RDKit, and DeepChem.
  • Synthesize and purify select top candidates using established synthetic organic chemistry protocols. The candidate should be comfortable with characterization techniques such as IR and NMR spectroscopy and analytic/preparative chromatography, 
  • Collaborate with our team to perform biochemical characterization in tissue culture. • Mentor a diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students. 
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments and analyze data. 

Qualifications: 
  • PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. 
  • Strong background in organic chemistry. 
  • Proficiency in Python programming. 
  • Track record of (open source) code development and publications. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members. 
  •  Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. 
  • Prior industry internship experience is a plus. 
  • Experience with high-performance and cloud computing is a plus. 
  • Experience in molecular docking and computational chemistry (QM/DFT/MD) is a plus.
