Description:

The Department of Geography at The Ohio State University is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the field of transportation geography. We are primarily interested in applicants whose research and teaching are focused on transportation geography in an aviation context. The successful candidate will have research and teaching expertise in human and/or freight mobility at regional, continental, and/or global scales. This can encompass such areas as economic geography, the geopolitics of mobility, transportation systems and development, system resilience, weather and meteorology, climate change and climate-related hazards, as well as environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

In addition to a focus on research, we seek a new colleague who can teach in our rapidly growing Air Transportation B.A. program. We welcome applications from scholars who have a proven commitment to teaching and mentoring, and who can advance our undergraduate Air Transportation major by innovating new courses on such topics as aviation geographies, logistics and freight transportation, transportation infrastructure, travel behavior, transportation-related geopolitics, air/ground/maritime transport, sustainable transportation, geographies of commerce, transportation modeling, and mobility studies.

Applicants are expected to have a viable research program and a demonstrated commitment to teaching and building a culturally diverse intellectual community. Experience with university teaching, mentoring students from diverse backgrounds, and public-facing or community-engaged scholarship is preferred.
