Position Description
Expressions of interest for postdoc positions at INFN Ferrara are welcome from candidates with a research record in analysis and interpretation of cosmological data. Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in cosmic microwave background (CMB) analysis and/or light relics phenomenology. The successful candidates will work with Dr. Martina Gerbino and her research group funded by the ERC-Starting grant RELiCS and the Italian PRIN grant (from Italian Ministry of University and Research) SHIFT. The successful candidates will analyse and interpret CMB data in light of light relics physics from current and future experiments, with a focus on the ground-based Simons Observatory, and contribute to the preparation for future experiments such as the LiteBIRD satellite and the ground-based CMB-S4. The research topics include: likelihood analysis, cosmological model building and investigation of fundamental physics with upcoming cosmological datasets, pipeline development for next generation CMB experiments, cross-correlation of CMB data with large-scale-structure surveys, link to high energy theories and comparison with astrophysical/laboratory experiments, statistical methods for data analysis. The postdoctoral research will take place in tight connection with the local Cosmology Group which includes members from the Ferrara INFN unit, the University of Ferrara, and INAF Bologna. The Cosmology group is active on several complementary aspects of the research in cosmology, covering a wide range of activities, from cosmo-particle projects with a mostly-theoretical flavor to the development and validation of data analysis pipelines. The group is deeply involved in several scientific collaborations such as LiteBIRD, Euclid, Simons Observatory, CMB-S4. More information can be found at https://www.fe.infn.it/cosmologia/?lang=en.
The National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) is the Italian research agency dedicated to the study of the fundamental constituents of matter and the laws that govern them. It conducts theoretical and experimental research in the fields of subnuclear, nuclear and astroparticle physics. More info here: https://home.infn.it/en/.
The formal selection procedure will take place soon after the deadline of the expression of interest via a dedicated INFN web portal. We are seeking to fill positions of 2-3 years duration (2 years extendable, depending on performance). The start date is flexible within summer/fall 2024. Starting dates as early as Fall 2023/Spring 2024 can be also considered. Salary will be commensurate with experience, and a generous travel budget is included in the positions.
To ensure they receive full consideration, expressions of interest should be sent (in English and via AJO) by November 26, 2023.
They should include:
1. Curriculum Vitae (1 page max).
2. Track record and a statement of research interests (2 pages max excluding references. Please note that the system requires 2 separate documents to be uploaded. The candidate can either merge track record and research statement in a single document and upload it twice, or upload them separately. In any case, the sum of research statement and track record cannot exceed 2 pages.).
3. List of at most 3 publications of greatest interest for the selection, with a short description of the candidate’s main contribution.
4. Names and email addresses of at least two referees who might be contacted for a letter of reference.
Application Materials Required:
Submit the following items online at this website to complete your application:
- Cover letters (optional)
- Curriculum Vitae
- Research statement
- Publication list
- Track record
- Two or more references (no actual letters, just names and email addresses )
