The Department of Physics at Lehigh University (LU) invites applications from outstanding and highly motivated individuals for a postdoctoral research associate position. This position is centered on the innovative use of machine learning (ML) and materials informatics for the prediction and discovery of new materials.

The successful candidate will spearhead the development and refinement of advanced ML algorithms such as multifidelity neural networks and computational models. This initiative is geared towards the predictive discovery of new materials and the elucidation of structure-property relationships. Our research ethos emphasizes versatility in methodologies, encompassing first-principles modeling, high-throughput materials informatics, and advanced ML strategies. The scope of research spans a wide array of material properties (electronic, optical, magnetic, topological) and their applications in next-generation technologies, including optoelectronic devices and quantum information systems. This position forms a critical part of our collaborative research efforts, linking closely with interrelated projects undertaken by Ph.D. students and fellow postdoctoral researchers.

Our group boasts robust collaborations with esteemed experimental teams within LU, across other academic institutions, and at premier National Laboratories, including the U.S. Army Research Lab in Aberdeen, MD.

Requirements

A Ph.D. or equivalent in theoretical/computational physics or chemistry is required. Demonstrated expertise in advanced ML models tailored for materials science, with a foundational understanding of first-principles electronic structure modeling (e.g., density functional theory). Proficiency in Python programming is essential. It is necessary to have excellent communication skills in both spoken and written English. Self-motivation is a desirable trait. Salary and terms of employment LU offers a highly competitive salary package. The period of employment is for two years with the possibility of extension for a third year upon mutual consent. The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled.
