Position Description
Harvey Mudd College invites applications for Visiting Assistant Professors for our general engineering program for the 2024-25 academic year, with a possibility to renew for the 2025-26 year by mutual agreement. The Department of Engineering seeks candidates with experience and knowledge in interdisciplinary applications of engineering and who can excel in teaching and advising through a broadly-based undergraduate curriculum focused on design, systems engineering, and engineering science. Applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and professional growth. A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in engineering or a related field is expected, although exceptional candidates with an M.S. and/or late in their Ph.D. program will be considered. Industrial or other practical experience in the field is valued. The salary is $85,000 for 9 months of teaching responsibilities.
Teaching opportunities include supervising sponsored projects in the Engineering Clinic program, as well as the department’s sophomore/junior required courses; junior/senior electives; and participation on teaching teams in the design and systems engineering sequences. Advising student teams through the Engineering Clinic program requires site visit travel and regular meetings with students, student leaders, project sponsors, and the Engineering Clinic program staff.
