The Institute for Quantum Information and Matter (IQIM) at Caltech invites applications for postdoctoral scholar positions in quantum science to begin in the fall 2025. IQIM research spans Caltech’s departments of physics, applied physics, materials science, electrical engineering, computer science, and chemistry, and addresses a wide variety of experimental and theoretical research topics. These topics include, but are not limited to, quantum information science, quantum many-body physics in condensed matter and atomic systems, topological states of matter, quantum optics and light-matter interactions at the quantum level, quantum cavity-optomechanics, and quantum metrology. IQIM also has active visitor, seminar, and outreach programs.
Applicants will be asked to name at least one Caltech faculty member they would like to work with. That faculty member need not be affiliated currently with IQIM.
Electronic copies of your curriculum vitae, publication list (refereed papers on top), statement of research interests (no more than 5 pages, excluding references), and three letters of recommendation are required.
Review of applications begins on November 15, 2024; applicants are strongly encouraged to submit all materials by that date.
The appointment is contingent upon completion of a Ph.D.

Qualifications and terms of appointment:
- Applicant must have or should expect to receive a PhD by the time the fellowship begins
- Applicants who are currently employed as postdocs are eligible
- Appointment is for 3 years
- Salary is $78,000 in the first year
- An annual research fund will be provided
- One-time allowance to assist with the move
- Annual vacations: 21 days, not including Caltech Holidays
- Annual sick leave: 15 days
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
