Position Description

We are seeking outstanding candidates for the role of a Postdoctoral Researcher or Senior Postdoctoral Researcher as a part of the “Quantum Dynamics and Information” group led by Prof. Ahana Chakraborty in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Louisiana State University, USA. “Quantum Dynamics and Information“ at LSU is a newly established theoretical research group that works at the exciting intersection between theoretical condensed matter physics and quantum information science. Our group focuses on investigating non-equilibrium dynamics of quantum many-particle systems, with special interests in various open quantum systems and disordered systems. Applicants are encouraged to visit our group’s website for more information on our research focus and directions; https://sites.google.com/view/ahana-chakraborty/home. In addition, our department has strong condensed matter theory and experimental research efforts with 9 theorists and 8 experimentalists, actively collaborating across these interdisciplinary fields.

The postdoctoral researcher responsibilities will include conducting theoretical research in condensed matter field on topics including (but not limited to) non-equilibrium phase transitions in driven quantum materials, manipulation of quantum material by light, including ultrafast laser and quantum light in THz cavities, and/or in quantum information field studying entanglement dynamics in various quantum circuits, using many-body techniques tailored to open quantum systems. As a group member, the researcher will contribute to advancing applications of open quantum systems collaborating with experimental groups and help shape a welcoming group culture. Additionally, the researcher will assist in the mentoring graduate students, publish papers and present at conferences. The senior level will lead research and mentor graduate students.

Minimum qualifications: (Both levels) Ph.D. in Physics or related fields. (Senior level) 3 years of postdoctoral experience.

Preferred qualifications: Research experience in theoretical condensed matter Physics or quantum information science. Knowledge of theoretical tools for studying many-body quantum systems is advantageous.

Application reviews will begin February 15, 2025. The position is for up to two years (subject to annual review), with a possibility of extending the contract further.

Closing date: Opened until filled.

Additional Job Description: Our group is part of LSU’s Department of Physics & Astronomy, which focuses on cutting-edge research across many domains relevant to quantum information and material science. Moreover, through the group of Professor James Sauls (Hearne Chair of Theoretical Physics), LSU’s Department of Physics & Astronomy is closely linked to the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Superconducting Quantum Materials and Systems Center. LSU is situated in Baton Rouge, Louisiana's vibrant capital, known for its rich cultural and culinary scene, mild winters, and proximity to the New Orleans metropolitan area.

Special Instructions: Please attach ALL documents under the Resume/CV section of your application. Please provide a one-page cover letter, curriculum vitae (CV), research statement describing your past research experience and research interests and a complete list of publications. Additionally, include the contact details (name, title, affiliation, phone number, and email address) of three researcher references with whom you have closely collaborated.

Official transcripts are required prior to hire.
