The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Victoria, invites applications for a limited term position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor in the areas of information security, network security, digital forensics, security analysis, and ethical hacking. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2026 for a period of one-year.  

The candidate's qualifications, experience and overall market demand will determine a candidate’s final salary offer. The salary for this position includes a competitive salary range of $75,000 - $83,000. Applicants must have an earned PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering or a related discipline at the time of appointment. Successful candidates are expected to teach both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Qualifications in teaching will be demonstrated by communications skills, a statement on teaching submitted as part of the application, recommendation letters and a sample lecture delivered during the on-site interview.

Qualified applicants will have: 

• Demonstrated ability to effectively teach courses in information security, network security, digital forensics, security analysis, and ethical hacking.
• The successful candidate must be able to teach ECE 567 Advanced Network Security, ECE 570 Computer Forensics Methodologies, and ECE 574 Practice of Information Security and Privacy.
• It would be an asset if the candidate can teach ECE 503 Optimization for Machine Learning, ECE 514 Design and Analysis of Computer Communication Networks, and ECE 535 Data Analysis and Pattern Recognition, but this is not required.
• Industry experience in the teaching areas is an asset. Hands-on expertise with penetration testing is required. Incident management experience is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to teach to a diverse student body with a range of perspectives, experiences, and cultures. 
• Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) registration in the province of British Columbia or eligibility to register is an asset for the appointment but not required. Please clearly indicate your status or eligibility.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has 27 faculty members with internationally recognized research and teaching programs. Six of our faculty members are IEEE Fellows, three are Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and four are fellows of the Engineering Institute of Canada.  This position is to support the Master of Engineering in Telecommunications and Information Security (MTIS) program.  More information on this program can be found at https://www.uvic.ca/ecs/ece/current/mtis/index.php.
