Position Description

The Department of Physics and Astronomy, College of Arts and Sciences, of Texas A&M University invites applications for two faculty positions in all areas of theoretical and experimental high energy (particle) physics. These full-time, tenure-track positions will each have a nine-month academic appointment beginning August 1, 2025. While the search is focused on candidates at the rank of assistant professor, in exceptional cases, a hire at the level of associate professor (tenure-track) may be considered.

The successful candidates are expected to establish vigorous, independent research programs that will attract external funding, assume full teaching responsibilities at the graduate and undergraduate levels of physics, and contribute to the service missions of the department.

The search is open to all areas of high energy physics. For experimental applicants, there is particular interest in candidates who will strengthen the existing research program at the CMS experiment at the LHC and candidates seeking to create new experimental directions in established or emerging areas of experimental HEP. For theoretical applicants, a particular emphasis will be placed on candidates working in areas of formal high energy theory.

The research programs of candidates are expected to strengthen or create synergies with one or more of the existing research areas in the department. Members of the high energy physics group are part of the George P. and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Institute for Fundamental Physics and Astronomy. The institute features world class programs in theoretical particle physics, astroparticle physics, and experimental high energy physics. Texas A&M University is currently participating in the CMS, DUNE, SuperCDMS, CCM, and MINER experiments. Information on the Department of Physics and Astronomy is available at https://physics.tamu.edu, and information on the Mitchell Institute can be found at https://mitchell.tamu.edu.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Earned PhD in physics or related field; strong record of publication; specialization in appropriate areas of theoretical or experimental high energy physics.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

All applications must be submitted through Interfolio at https://apply.interfolio.com/156235. For full consideration, applications must be completed by November 22, 2024. Application review will continue until the position has been filled.

Each applicant should submit

● a cover letter stating a specific interest in one of the high energy physics faculty positions; ● a curriculum vita, including full publication list; and ● a personal statement to include philosophy and plans for research, teaching, and service (maximum five pages);

and arrange three letters of reference to be submitted directly through Interfolio by the letter writers.

Questions regarding the position should be directed to facultysearch@physics.tamu.edu.
