The College of Arts and Sciences at Boston University invites applications for an Associate Director of Policy at the Boston University Center for Antiracist Research (“CAR”) to begin July 2022, pending budgetary approval. We seek a senior scholar (Associate or Full professor) with a strong publication record on topics related to antiracist practice and policy. The successful applicant will also serve as a tenured faculty member of an appropriate department, including Anthropology, Economics, History, Political Science or Sociology and will be expected to engage in research, teaching, and mentoring commensurate with such an appointment.

The Associate Director of Policy will serve as a senior leader of CAR, managing its Office of Policy and developing and executing strategic plans for projects. They will contribute to thought leadership at CAR and manage the Assistant Director(s) of Policy, Law & Policy Fellows, and student interns. The successful candidate must have a strong record in policy-relevant research and a vision for how to translate research into tangible policy proposals. We encourage applications from those with a record of fostering research partnerships with policymakers and obtaining and managing grant funding. Additionally, strong candidates will have experience engaging faculty, students, and other stakeholders (from academia, government, nonprofits, and the private sector) in the policymaking process. While serving as Associate Director of Policy, the faculty member will receive additional administrative compensation and have reduced faculty obligations, to be determined with the home department.

The BU Center for Antiracist Research fosters exhaustive team-oriented research and scholarship on racism and anti-racism and research-based policy innovation. Our mission is to convene researchers and practitioners from various disciplines to figure out novel and practical ways to understand, explain, and solve seemingly intractable problems of racial inequity and injustice. We support project-based student learning, data-driven educational and advocacy campaigns, and narrative-change initiatives. We are looking for an academic leader from a relevant disciplinary background who shares the CAR’s mission to produce antiracist public scholarship and policies that directly impact people’s lives and support equity and justice for all.
