Position Description
This position is for a postdoctoral fellow, who will develop and apply mathematical models of mass transport processes involved in drug delivery by a new Intravaginal Ring (which contains both anti-HIV and contraceptive drugs), and a new injection methodology for ablating tumors. The models predict the mass transport of select molecules (drugs) to the host tissues and cells. Results from the models will be connected to experimental studies of the ring and injection method, as part of rational design of an optimal ring and injection procedure. Background for this position should include a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or related field, with experience and expertise in using fluid mechanics and mass transport (diffusion) theory in developing, solving and applying mathematical models of biological and biomedical processes. This includes use of numerical methods for solving systems of differential equations, as well as formal analytical derivations of elements of the mass transport processes. The person in this position, will be expected to work independently, but also help supervise students (undergraduate and graduate) working on related mathematical and experimental processes.Duke University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer committed to providing employment opportunity without regard to an individual's age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status.
