The Center for Advanced Genomic Technologies in the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University. The Gersbach Lab at Duke University, Pratt School of Engineering, Department of Biomedical Engineering is seeking an Associate in Research to work in the field of genome and epigenome engineering, particularly within the setting of understanding and manipulating cell fate. This position will be asked to assist with culture and maintenance of primary cells, human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) and/or transgenic mice models. Core techniques employed include molecular cloning, RNA/DNA isolation, PCR, flow cytometry, mammalian cell culture, high-throughput CRISPR screening, and NGS. We are looking for a motivated candidate with previous research experience (2 years minimum, bachelor and/or master in biology or related field) with strong wet lab bench skills. The laboratory duty requirements are ideal for someone who is detail oriented and can easily manage several ongoing tasks with competing deadlines. This position will work with graduate students and/or postdoctoral fellows; therefore, we seek someone who can maintain teamwork, is cooperative, and can be flexible with scheduling lab work. Required qualifications: 1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. 2. Two years of related experience with standard laboratory procedures in molecular biology. 3. The ideal candidate should be hard-working and eager to learn. 4. Ability to work in a team setting and independently with minimum supervision. 5. Ability to execute planned cell and molecular biological experiments, analyze data, and present data 6. Strong oral and written communication skills. 7. Strong critical thinking skills and excellent attention to detail. 8. Must have basic computational skills such as knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. The following skills are highly desired (any combination): 1. Experience with mammalian tissue culture 2. Molecular cloning techniques and plasmid purification 3. PCR and RT-qPCR reaction design/troubleshooting 4. Immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry, protein immunoassays (WB/IP) 5. Next generation sequencing library preparation 6.
