|Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
Career-track or Career Staff Scientist
Physics Division, Berkeley, California, USA
The Physics Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) has an opening for a Staff Scientist to work half-time in the Particle Data Group (PDG, http://pdg.lbl.gov) and half-time on research in one of the Physics Division programs (see http://physics.lbl.gov). The Physics Division conducts world-leading research in the Energy, Intensity and Cosmic frontiers. The PDG publishes the biennial Review of Particle Physics, a comprehensive summary of high-energy physics as well as related areas of cosmology and astrophysics. The Review is the most cited publication in high-energy physics.
The successful candidate will be expected to take on significant responsibilities within the PDG group and play an important role in a research program. An outstanding capability in experimental or theoretical research is required, as is experience working with particle physics data. The appointment may be at either the career or career-track level (a career-track appointment carries the expectation of promotion to career based on significant accomplishments in both research and PDG).
Preference will be given to applicants with experience equivalent to several years of postdoctoral work, a broad knowledge of the field, and a strong record of research accomplishments. Other important skills include a critical eye for both scientific and editorial work, an ability to organize and summarize information, and excellent writing and editing skills. The individual must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
