Description:

The Department of Economics in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure track/tenured position at the assistant, associate or full professor level, working in applied microeconomics, commencing autumn semester 2017. The specific field is open, and might include education, health, history, industrial organization, innovation, public, or urban / regional economics, or other fields in applied microeconomics, but a preference will be given to people working outside of labor economics.

The department is also seeking scholars working on issues of racial and gender inequality, the economics of immigration, health inequality, policy evaluation, and closely related topics to increase faculty diversity at Ohio State and promote research and teaching on topics central to race, ethnicity, gender/sex and disparities in modern society. In an effort to build a community of scholars around this theme, all units in the Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences will hire. The specific position proposals involved in this initiative approach these issues from various perspectives that build on and contribute to the strengths of the units proposing them. We envision the Race, Ethnicity, Gender/Sex and Disparities in Modern Society cluster as a foundation on which we can build with other colleges, expanding areas of interest and research as faculty are added. The new cluster of faculty will be able to build a network with many committed professors already at home in the College of Arts and Sciences in the Diversity & Identity Studies Collective, the Department of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and the Department of African American and African Studies. Graduate certificates in this area of inquiry and undergraduate bridge programs are also being built to support this initiative.

Qualifications:

A tenure-track assistant professor will be expected to establish and maintain an active research program, seek grant opportunities, and support a commitment to excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates are expected to have completed all of the requirements for their doctoral degree prior to the start of employment. An associate professor or full professor candidate will have an established, active and ongoing record of scholarship at the highest level. He or she will have an international reputation in research, evidence of strong teaching ability and an exceptional record of advising graduate students. A doctoral degree in Economics is required at the time of application. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.
