Faculty Position in Applied Physics
The Department of Applied Physics at Stanford University invites applications for a tenure-line junior or tenured senior faculty position to begin on or around September 1, 2013. Applicants should at minimum hold an earned doctorate in a core science or engineering discipline, have outstanding potential for establishing an independent research program, and show promise of becoming an excellent teacher at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Senior applicants should have significant past accomplishments and present a compelling intellectual and technical vision for future research. This search will focus on candidates who can help to define a new long-term vision for the Edward L. Ginzton Laboratory. We are thus seeking candidates who are working in areas that build upon the historical strengths of the Ginzton Laboratory in laser and accelerator physics, quantum optics and electronics, quantum engineering, photonics, microscopy and nonlinear optics. Research at the interface of engineering and applied physics that establishes new connections to biology, chemistry, information science, and/or energy science will be of particular interest. The Ginzton Laboratory has a tradition of excellence both in basic applied science and in the development of new technology and instrumentation, and has benefitted greatly over the years from a synergy of experimental and theoretical research efforts.
Candidates should upload their curriculum vita, publication list, and research and teaching statement (up to three pages), and arrange to have three letters of reference submitted online. For queries, please contact the Department Administrator, Paula Perron (email@example.com, or by postal mail to Stanford University Department of Applied Physics, 348 Via Pueblo Mall, Stanford, CA 94305-4090). Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled, but candidates are strongly encouraged to submit applications by November 1, 2012.
Stanford University is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty. It welcomes nominations of, and applications from, women and members of minority groups, as well as others who would bring additional dimensions to the University's research and teaching missions.
