|Georgetown Universityâ€™s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service aims to recruit one research-oriented faculty member in Theology/Study of Religion for a core faculty position in the School of Foreign Service in Qatar (SFS-Q). Core faculty positions are full-time positions, which carry the job security, professional opportunities, and commitment to academic freedom associated with tenure-track appointments. Positions described in this advertisement are part of a large, multi-year strategic expansion of the SFS-Q faculty (http://qatar.sfs.georgetown.edu/grow/).
We seek applications from qualified candidates at all ranks beyond the Ph.D., although we aim particularly to recruit at advanced assistant, associate and full ranks. We are looking especially for candidates whose research and teaching interests combine one or more of our priority areas below.

Applicants at advanced rank must have substantial research accomplishments and evidence of ambitious ongoing research agendas. Entry-level applicants must have exceptional promise of future research productivity, and an existing record of publication will be beneficial. Successful candidates will be expected to sustain a strong commitment to the conduct of major research endeavors in their fields of specialization.
All applicants must have outstanding teaching credentials and be committed to undergraduate teaching. The normal teaching load is 2-2. However, entry-level appointments carry course-load reductions during the first year. Junior colleagues are then eligible to apply for a â€œjunior research semesterâ€ free of teaching. Colleagues who earn, or are appointed at, senior core faculty status (a tenure equivalent) are eligible to apply for periodic research sabbaticals.
Successful candidates will be expected to teach lower division general education as well as upper-level courses in their areas of specialization.
Qatar offers a diverse, safe, and family-friendly environment. Compensation and expatriate benefits packages are highly competitive. Salary range is $110,000 - $191,000, depending on rank and experience - inclusive of a 2/9ths summer research stipend. SFS-Q provides generous research support and support for conference travel. SFS-Q faculty are eligible to apply for Qatar National Priorities Research Program grants from the Qatar National Research Fund. Deadline for applications is 30 October 2013. First-round interviews will be held at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion, November 23-26 in Baltimore, and/or via Skype video conferencing or alternative means between mid-November and early December. Campus visits to Doha for shortlisted candidates are provisionally scheduled to happen in January 2014.
