The Physics Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a postdoctoral position. The successful candidate will work in a research program, “The Physics of the Observer” being funded by the Foundational Questions Institute (FQXi). The co-investigators for this program are Anthony Aguirre and Joshua Deutsch at UCSC and Max Tegmark at MIT. This program spans many theoretical issues: cosmology, the foundations of quantum mechanics, relativity, neuroscience, and biophysics. The ability to think independently and creatively about deep theoretical questions is crucial. Aside from the co-investigators, there will be visitors at UCSC associated with this program. The ability to interact well with other researchers is important. The postdoc will contribute to the organization of meetings and play an active role in shaping the direction of the program.
