|Faculty Position in Computational Fluid and Thermal Sciences, Cornell University|
The Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the area of computational fluid and thermal sciences. Successful applicants are expected to be active members in Cornell’s Center for Applied Mathematics (CAM), an interdisciplinary group across multiple Colleges and Departments at Cornell. Applicants must hold a doctorate in an appropriate field, must have demonstrated an ability to conduct outstanding research, and show promise for excellent teaching. We anticipate filling the position at the Assistant Professor level, but applications at other levels will be considered; salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The ideal candidate will be an outstanding innovator in the development and application of computational methods and tools for mechanical and aerospace engineering applications, with particular emphasis on fluid and thermal sciences. Areas of interest include applied mathematics for multi-physics problems and partial differential equations, high performance computing, and data-driven modeling, with application to engineering thermofluids, flow control, fluid-structure interaction, energy, and the natural and built environment. Exceptional candidates in all areas will be given serious consideration. Candidates should also show an ability and willingness to teach innovative classes in both Applied Mathematics and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Cornell University fosters interdisciplinary research and an atmosphere of cooperation through its Centers and Graduate Field system. In addition to CAM, faculty in computational sciences and thermofluids have numerous opportunities in research and teaching to interact with other faculty and staff from other departments (e.g., Civil & Environmental Engineering, Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics…) and with a number of unique programs including the Center for Advanced Computing and the Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future.
The Sibley School and the College of Engineering at Cornell embrace diversity and seek candidates who can foster a welcoming climate for all students. The University seeks to meet the needs of dual career couples, has a Dual Career program, and is a member of the Upstate New York Higher Education Recruitment Consortium to assist with dual career searches.
