|The School of Politics and Global Studies at Arizona State University seeks candidates for a tenure-track appointment at the assistant professor level (Job Order 10529) in Middle Eastern Studies. The position is open with respect to methodology. The candidate will also be a member of the Center for Jewish Studies and have the potential to affiliate with other schools at Arizona State, which values interdisciplinary research and teaching. Position start date: August 16, 2014.|
Required qualifications: candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Political Science or related social science discipline (e.g., Economics, Sociology, International Relations) by the time of the appointment; must demonstrate theoretical and methodological sophistication in their approach to the study of the contemporary Middle East; must demonstrate knowledge of the political, economic and social forces of the Middle East; must demonstrate the ability to teach specific courses on the Arab-Israeli conflicts and the politics of contemporary Israel that will be cross-listed with Jewish Studies.
Desired qualifications: promise of excellence in research in Middle Eastern Studies; promise of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; promise of ability to generate external funding; native or near-native proficiency in at least one of the major non-European languages of the Middle East.
